The Five Pillars of Guaranteed Business Success
Building a successful business is more complex than ever in the 21st century, the five pillars: planning, marketing, systems, motivation and discipline are built on the foundation stones outlined in this book.
Greg Chapman gives you the business owner a real insight into each of these areas and begins the realisation that you should not be your business, but rather you should let go and enable your business to grow without you.
Leadership is more than management and using his advice your business can serve you, assist you to live a better and less stressful lifestyle, after all you are the one who has taken the risks, put in the hard work and created your dream, you deserve it.
I congratulate Greg on writing such a succinct book outlining the five pillars of business success because the next wave of productivity increases for Australia can be found by lifting the efficiency in the small business sector, there by making us more competitive in the global market of which we are part. The first step towards this grand goal is a book like this. I highly recommend it.

Dr. Greg Chapman’s book is essential reading for any small business owner wanting to avoid the common traps that lead to business failure. This is an easy to read, practical guide to running a better business and a must have addition to any proactive business owner’s library.

When I read The 5 Pillars of Guaranteed Business Success I was stunned – finally, a book that is clearly written by somebody who really understands what it’s like to be trapped in a small business, for people who are in small business. The book tells the story of an entrepreneur whose experience in small business echoes that of so many people in a similar situation – highly skilled, giving great service but frustrated, suffocated by working too hard, and believing that there must be a better way but not knowing what. The author skilfully weaves solid, down-to-earth business advice and explanations into that story. If you’re in a small business and feel that you could be doing much better, then this book is for you. I will certainly recommend it as required reading to my own clients who are just starting out in business.

THE 5 PILLARS OF GUARANTEED BUSINESS SUCCESS
BY DR GREG CHAPMAN
Amanda Ferry – Director GOOP
Dr Chapman has written this book divided into two key areas.
- The life cycles of a business
- Growing Pains
- The 5 pillars of guaranteed business success
- The plan
- Marketing strategy
- Business systems
- People systems
For any budding entrepreneur growing a small business or anybody that has ever grown and sold their business you will find yourself nodding (or crying) in agreement with nearly every aspect of this book.
However rather than providing a ‘road map’ for your business this is more a ‘how to drive the car’ instructions manual that is incredibly useful and lets you know how to slow the vehicle down, speed it up and ultimately get you to where you want to go. The where you want to go is up to you.
The key to this book for small business is that it inspires and shows you how to drive and really gives you the tools drive. Where you want to go is up to you. Take it for a test drive. Pointless having a map if you can’t reach your destination
I highly recommend this book for any small business owners and suggest that you get along to one of Dr Greg Chapmans Seminars.
This book should prove to be a very useful and practical guide to anyone going into business. It is also useful for those in business who may be wondering why their business is not growing or going in directions they want it to. Greg has personally helped me to set goals and to see what I needed to do to succeed in my business. He has managed to put those tools and ideas into a logical and easy to follow plan. The employment of a case study makes the book real and makes the theory explicit. I recommend his first book to anyone about to go or already in business.

Many thanks for the book you sent a few weeks ago. I have had a look through it and think it is very good – it feels more realistic and relevant to Australian small business than the Gerber stuff. Let’s hope it’s as successful! Congratulations anyway. I can see you are practicing what you preach.

I read Greg’s book once and found it a real eye-opener. He seemed to be describing my business!
Straight away I read it again and was able to absorb much more information. I had had a vague sense that I wasn’t heading where I wanted to go, but before reading Greg’s book, I was not able to articulate that feeling.
Now I see the big picture, I know where I am, and can better see where I want to go, and how to get there. Thanks Greg.

Reading the pillars to success book made us come to a number of realisations and made us excited about the journey ahead. Michael is prioritizing his time more (brain surgery) to focus on the things that move us towards our goals. Reading the book has helped us to see where we are and begin to understand where we are going. Michael prioritizing has enabled him to see where the ‘brain surgery’ is in the business and has meant that he hasn’t been so worried if he hasn’t achieved the less important tasks.

Congratulations. It is a very good book, I go back from time to time to re read some of the parts. Bless you.
I have actually finished the book now and have found it extremely interesting and inspiring. I have been on the website and downloaded the business resources and had a look. I now know what i have to do and Andrew and I are about to sit and do our goals with the help of the goals generator to then develop a business plan and take it from there.

I just wanted to let you know that I have just finished your book. I found it to be a great read and are currently using the Marketing and goal setting aspects of the book. I have read quite a lot of personal development books over the last 10 years and I found yours to be up there with some of the best of them.
As I neared the end of the book a phrase by Ivan Misner leaped off the page at me. I have known of Ivan from BNI as I have been a member of BNI since 2000. The phrase said “The secret of success is the uncommon application of common knowledge”. Then you have said “The secret to success is doing all the things we have discussed here, doing it in a highly disciplined manner and doing it very well”
It then occurred to me (stating the bloody obvious) that now I have learnt all the things that you have mentioned I should apply them. Derrrr!!!! I am now going to go back over the book page by page and will actually fill out the prompts that you have enclosed throughout the book.
Thank you for your book

Practical step by step information
By Michael Lawrence
Greg Chapman’s book is one of the most practical and useful resources that I have come across to assist small business owners/intenders concentrate on the fundamentals of building a successful business! As an established business consultant with a focus on helping people grow their business, I found this book not only a great resource for my own operation but as a guide for others. Its strength is in the ability for readers to take the information, understand and implement quickly and get identifiable results, whether a new business or already underway. I feel that this book addresses a gap in the provision of both professional and practical advice to business owners, and if they understood the five pillars we would have more successful businesses. Congratulations on an excellent tool!

Practical Advice for Small Business
By Daniel Eigenmann
Dr Chapman has written a very practical book for small business owners who want to grow their businesses.
The book includes simple examples and templates in a format that enables time-poor entrepreneurs to hit the ground running. In fact, the lack of ‘fluff’ is very refreshing.
The book is divided into two parts:
The first section (“The life of a Business”) covers the 5 stages all businesses go through and provides practical examples on to recognize each stage, what the main issues are, how to survive and how to move to the next one (or avoid the last one).
The second section (“The Five Pillars”) describes in practical details Dr Chapman’s five pillars:
- The plan
- Marketing strategy
- Business systems
- People systems
The fifth pillar (You!) is probably one of the most important one. As Dr Chapman writes, unless you are prepared to do the work, all the knowledge in the world is not going to help.
So unless you are ready to do the work – even a practical book like this one is not going to help. But if you are ready to do the work – this book will provide you with a great foundation to create and grow a successful business.
The 5 Pillars of guaranteed business success is a present from my sister and it is a best present and I would recommend to any one who wants a successful business. Thank you.

Review by Linda Le – ygenclub.com
The ‘5 Pillars of Guaranteed Business Success’ by Dr Greg Chapman is a short book which aims to provide business owners and entrepreneurs with the principles that enable them to work on their business – and not in it. The book leads you through the typical business lifecycle; which places readers in a paradigm that when businesses approach maturity, business owners must either leap out of their comfort zone to work towards making their business a saleable asset – or risk staying small. The second part of the book goes a process to help business owners overcome this – the 5 Pillars.
The title of the book allures readers to pick it up in search of a ‘quick fix’ solution to a ‘guaranteed’ success for their business. Sometimes I find myself tempted to be ‘reeled in’ to the easy way out of doing things. One of the lessons learnt in this book is that there is no ‘silver bullet’ to success, just a need achieve new heights and a will to take immediate action. The book takes you through a lengthy process so that you could apply the tools to your business. The initial investment in time to work through these tools can save you a lot of time, money and years of ‘hard-learning’ – although you will have to go through them which requires the hard work and commitment to sit down and really analyse yourself and your business. To me, this is like many other business/personal development books, it is up to the individual to grasp what they have learnt, apply it to their situations and take responsibility for their own successes. The ability to want change and the will to commit to hard work in order for that change to happen is the only way that these sorts of books can be effective in their aim. The main message that jumps out at me is that I am in a constant motion of reading and learning – but I will get nowhere if I don’t do something about it. Knowledge itself can create awareness, but there is a need to act on this – otherwise that knowledge becomes irrelevant over time.
I find this book useful, practical, and easy to read and understand. This book creates focus and clarity for business owners and entrepreneurs to grasp an understanding of their business and pick up some processes that could help them to advance. I think that if people are willing to commit to taking their businesses to the next level, then this is a great little book. If not, I wouldn’t bother picking it up.
I believe that the core message in the book will help my business. I will continue to use the book’s information as a constant resource and reference.
The Five Pillars of Guaranteed Business Success has helped my business overall. All chapters of the book have served their purpose well.
Reading this book has been a positive experience. I was able to diagnose at what stage my business was at and how to turn my business around.
I found the book a great source of practical information. The step by step scheme was very useful. The book is very easy to comprehend and execute.
I am in the process of setting up a different business plan after reading this book. I would generally make a plan, however I would not follow through with it. This book has showed me how important it is to create a plan and stick to it.
This book has been very helpful to my business. I am in the process of having my son take over the business and this book has showed what steps and process are needed to be taken to make the merge successful. I use it as a continual source of information.
This book has helped me grow my business success. The structure of it is strong and as a result it has increased the companies’ financial structure. I highly recommend this book to businesses that are struggling to determine how to improve their business. This is a treasure of information.
This book is broken down into different chapters, each chapter has it own purpose and if you follow the processes and information as I have then you will not regret it. The information in this book has helped the success of my business now and will continue to benefit my business in the future. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to make a positive change in their business.
